Build the opening Pax Autocratica base as a compact working circuit, not a final monument. Repair objective-critical structures, establish food and basic material flow, connect source to storage to workshop, and leave clear paths for citizens who must haul between them. Expand only when you can say which shortage the next building solves.
Survey before placing anything expensive
Walk the existing colony and read the active objectives. Identify damaged core structures, usable terrain, current storage, resource sources, doors, stairs, work areas, and the routes citizens already take. The Command Center and Victory Square are tied to research behavior in current patch notes, so unresolved repair state can affect what their interfaces show.
Use temporary observation instead of immediate demolition. Watch where a worker enters a building and where a delivery lands. Rotate the camera and inspect upper and lower construction space; community players have noted vertical building controls, but the exact modifier should come from the live control hints because bindings and input devices differ. Do not copy an unverified key combination into a valuable placement.
Lay out a small logistics spine
This is a relationship map, not a hidden-bonus formula. Pax Autocratica does not publicly document universal distance bonuses or pollution rings, and current player reports do not justify invented tile thresholds. Judge a layout by observed travel, queue uptime, access, and citizen condition.
Build one chain and watch it run
Choose an essential output and follow it from beginning to end. Assign the gatherer, confirm the raw item appears, watch the hauler deliver it, supply and staff the processor, then identify where the finished output goes. The chain is complete only when the intended consumer can use it.
If work stops, do not duplicate the last building automatically. A duplicate consumes construction material and may compete for the same missing worker or delivery. Inspect the earliest empty stage. Fixing one route or assignment can restart several downstream facilities at once.
Directive AG-14 fixed a hauling bug that could make resources disappear. That does not make every missing item a bug. On the current branch, reproduce the route, note the item and buildings involved, and see whether the resource entered another queue before filing a report.
Expand vertically without losing access
Platforms can give you room for a readable district and help separate paths, but vertical construction adds stairs, sightline changes, and another level to inspect. Before committing scarce material, place or preview a small section and confirm citizens can reach the intended work area. Keep entrances and interaction points visible from at least one normal camera angle.
Avoid creating a decorative boulevard that forces routine deliveries around a long obstacle. Wide ceremonial space is useful only after the colony can afford it. When you do build for appearance, keep the logistics spine intact and place decoration beyond the routes that feed food, research, and expedition supplies.
Reserve room for change
Door clearance
Leave a clean approach to structures you enter, repair, or inspect frequently. Crowded entrances make pathing and interaction problems hard to diagnose.
Delivery clearance
Keep storage and production access free of decorative choke points so multiple workers can complete their routes.
Queue reserve
Protect raw material for repairs and mission-critical production instead of committing everything to one large batch.
Workforce reserve
Leave enough uncommitted labor to staff an unlock or cover a citizen who needs rest.
Early Access development is already changing building, UI, research, and logistics behavior. A layout with a little free space is cheaper to adapt than one packed to the last platform. Save before rebuilding a major district, then move one function and verify its route before moving the next.
Prepare for expeditions without freezing the base
The colony keeps operating while the Leader is away. Before departure, inspect food, raw-material intake, hauling, storage capacity, and any queue you expect to finish. A chain that works only while you manually transfer items is not ready for a long expedition.
Unload unnecessary Leader inventory and deliver the exact quantities needed by key buildings. Manual deposit quantities are available in the current Early Access build, so you do not need to empty every stack into one destination. Preserve materials for repairs and another production chain.
Repair a layout that has stalled
Stop nonessential queues and new construction. Pick one critical output, assign a clear worker and hauler, and temporarily shorten the route if possible. Watch until the item reaches its consumer. Then restore the next chain. If citizens are exhausted or hungry, stabilize their schedule and support before demanding more production.
When a building model or interaction looks wrong, verify Steam files before destroying the district. AG-12 and AG-14 addressed several display, collision, and wall issues; a visual fault can resemble bad placement. Preserve a manual save and the game’s automatic backup before destructive changes.
Return to the Colony hub for workforce, research, directives, and expedition preparation. A base is finished enough when it keeps essential people supplied, moves materials predictably, and leaves you free to choose the next objective.
