Pax Autocratica performance varies between colony simulation, menus, loading, and first-person battles. The developers list performance, crashes, and loading among active Early Access priorities. Tune for a repeatable problem scene, change one group of settings at a time, and keep hardware, driver, resolution, and directive context with the result.
Establish a clean baseline
Confirm the machine meets the System Requirements, install a stable graphics driver, close heavy background work, and verify the game is using the intended GPU. Record resolution, display mode, frame limit or sync state, upscaling, Frame Generation, and the graphics preset currently exposed by the game.
Restart after a major renderer or display change if the interface requests it. Use the same save, camera direction, and activity for comparisons.
Identify the kind of slowdown
Reduce graphics load in a controlled order
Begin with resolution or render scale, then the current options most likely to affect expensive shadows, effects, reflections, view detail, or post-processing. Use the labels in the live menu; do not claim an option exists solely because another game uses it. After each group, repeat the same scene and decide whether image cost and performance gain are acceptable.
Keep interface readability and enemy cues clear. A setting that raises an average while hiding objectives or capture states can reduce actual playability.
Handle DLSS, Frame Generation, and FSR carefully
The August 13 official crash guidance told affected players to test with DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation disabled. AG-14 attempted to address an FSR-related crash. These are stability contexts, not claims that every user should permanently disable every scaling technology.

Test without upscaling or generated frames when the hardware can provide a readable comparison.
Upscaling test
Change one supported mode or quality level and compare image clarity, frame pacing, and stability.

Separate CPU, memory, and storage pressure
If lowering render-heavy settings barely changes a large-colony slowdown, compare camera positions and simulation activity. Close memory-heavy applications because the store lists 16 GB RAM. Keep free storage beyond the listed 40 GB so updates and temporary work are not constrained.
Avoid broad operating-system tweaks or unsafe launch flags without official support. A reversible setting change with a recorded result is more useful than a bundle that hides the cause.
Preserve a before-and-after report
Record CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution, driver, scene, directive, settings changed, and outcome. If a technical failure persists, follow Crash Fixes and send the reproducible case through the official support path.
Use frame pacing and control response alongside an average frame rate. A run that reports a higher average but pauses during camera movement, combat effects, or a critical colony panel may feel worse. Note the worst repeated interruption and the action that causes it.
Thermal and power conditions belong in laptop and handheld-style tests. Record whether the device is plugged in, which power profile is active, and whether performance declines after several minutes. A brief cold launch can hide sustained limits that appear during a complete expedition.
Retest after a game or driver update from the saved baseline before carrying over old tweaks. If the baseline improves, remove unnecessary compromises one at a time. This keeps image quality and interface clarity from remaining reduced long after the original bottleneck changes.
