Understand the current evidence boundary
The game may be attempted through SteamOS and Proton, but that is a compatibility-layer path rather than native Linux support. The developer’s August 13 update said Steam Deck virtual keyboard behavior was being investigated. Treat any individual success or failure as dependent on game build, SteamOS, Proton, settings, and save context.
Do not use the Windows minimum requirements as a handheld performance promise. The Deck has a fixed hardware and thermal envelope, while the game combines colony simulation with effect-heavy first-person encounters.
Protect saves before experimenting
Keep a rotating manual save, leave the automatic backup intact, and confirm Steam Cloud synchronization state before changing Proton versions or moving between PC and Deck. Keep separate results for handheld and docked use. Resolution, display, controller routing, power, and virtual keyboard access can differ after docking. A successful docked session does not answer small-text or on-screen-keyboard questions in handheld mode, while a handheld failure may belong to a specific power or overlay state.
For each report, state the longest completed loop: colony only, expedition only, full departure and return, or save and reload after both. That milestone gives another Deck owner a practical expectation without turning one device session into a rating.
