Pax Autocratica does not list native Linux support on its current Steam store page. Linux players may experiment with Proton or Wine, but that does not convert a Windows build into an officially supported Linux release. As of August 15, available community reporting was sparse and conflicting, so this page does not guarantee launch, performance, input, saves, or updates.
Keep native support and Proton results separate
The official platform metadata is the stable starting point: Windows is native, Linux is not listed. A successful Proton report describes one compatibility-layer environment. Record the game update, Proton version, distribution, kernel, GPU, driver, desktop session, launch options, and tested feature before comparing it with another machine.
Do not summarize a handful of reports as universal “Platinum” support. Low sample size and different hardware can produce both success and failure without either proving the result for all users.
Protect the campaign before testing
Keep manual saves and preserve the automatic backup. Confirm Steam Cloud status and copy a known-good campaign using a safe method you understand before changing compatibility tools. The audit did not verify a current native save path, so this page does not invent one.
Avoid mixing several unverified launch flags at once. Start with a clean Steam-managed Proton configuration, then make one reversible change and record the result.
Test beyond the title screen
Verify launch, real-save loading, colony rendering, building UI, research and quantities, controller or mouse-and-keyboard input, one expedition, effects-heavy combat, audio, save, clean exit, and reload. Note whether a failure is consistent and whether it belongs to the game, Proton, graphics stack, input layer, or desktop session.
Handle graphics features conservatively
The official Windows crash guidance includes testing with DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation disabled, and AG-14 mentions an attempted FSR crash fix. Availability and behavior under Proton can differ by GPU and driver. Begin with a simple stable baseline before enabling advanced scaling or generated frames.
Do not promise that a Windows workaround will resolve a Proton issue. It is a diagnostic step whose result needs the Linux environment attached.
Report and revisit dated results
Share a complete environment and full-loop milestone rather than “works” or “broken.” A new game directive, Proton release, Mesa or proprietary driver, kernel, or Steam runtime can change the outcome. Preserve the first clean prefix or compatibility environment that reaches a stable milestone. Experimental changes can then be compared against that baseline without erasing it. If a newer Proton build regresses, record the old and new results with the same save and scene before choosing the older tool for continued play.
Distinguish a launch workaround from a playable configuration. A flag that reaches the menu has limited value if colony panels, combat effects, video, audio, or saving fail later. Promote a result only after the named milestone succeeds twice and the campaign reloads with the expected state.
When sharing logs, remove usernames, home paths, tokens, and other private details. Include only the error neighborhood needed to identify the graphics, runtime, file, or input failure. The environment fields and exact action usually carry more diagnostic value than an unfiltered dump.
