Pax Autocratica Progression Guide

A milestone-based Pax Autocratica progression route connecting colony stability, research, soldiers, expeditions, captures, and sector objectives.

Progress in Pax Autocratica comes from alternating between the colony and the frontier. A larger base is not automatically a stronger state, and clearing another battlefield is not useful if the settlement cannot absorb the people or materials you bring home. When the next objective feels unclear, identify which side of that exchange is blocked before spending more resources.

Diagnose the current gate

Open the active objectives, Research screen, Star Map, critical building panels, and citizen assignments. Look for one explicit unmet condition: a damaged structure, missing input, unavailable worker, unfinished research, unresolved prisoner, or incomplete mission. Treat greyed controls as clues, not invitations to guess at undocumented thresholds.

The Early Access build has already received onboarding and interface fixes. If a task appears impossible, verify that the named building is fully repaired and that its current panel has been read. A repair, objective hand-in, or research completion may reveal the control you need.

Colony gateA required structure, stock, delivery, or worker is missing.
Research gateThe next capability has a visible prerequisite or unfinished queue.
Mission gateA Star Map objective or sector result has not been completed.
Population gateThe state lacks a soldier, prisoner slot, conversion path, or replacement worker.

Build a dependable early-state loop

Before broad expansion, make one food route and one mission-relevant material route work without the Leader carrying every stack. Watch gathering, hauling, processing, storage, and consumption as a continuous chain. If a workshop waits, trace the first empty input rather than placing a duplicate workshop.

Keep some labor and stock uncommitted. New research often creates a fresh staffing or construction demand, while expedition casualties can remove people from important jobs. A reserve lets you respond without dismantling the only functioning chain.

Convert research into usable capability

Research is progress only after its result is installed, supplied, and staffed. When a project finishes, pause the research queue long enough to inspect what changed. Note whether it unlocked a building, an upgrade, a production option, or a system action, then fund that result deliberately.

Avoid queuing attractive projects solely because they are available. Choose the project that removes the gate you diagnosed. If food, hauling, prison capacity, equipment supply, and mission access are all stable, then a broader efficiency or military project becomes easier to support.

Use expeditions as targeted acquisitions

Give every departure one primary purpose. You might need a particular resource class, a capturable unit, mission completion, equipment, or information about a sector. Prepare the squad and free inventory space around that purpose. Returning safely with the needed input usually advances the state more than extending a run after its objective is complete.

Directive AG-14 changed capture behavior and added advanced Capture Rounds, so a recruitment trip needs current capture tools and disciplined damage. If the prison or conversion chain is already full, do not create another captive backlog merely because a target is available.

Milestone
Evidence it is complete
Productive next move
Stable core
Food and one material chain run through an absence
Fund the research that opens the next objective
Independent logistics
Workers move essential inputs without constant manual deposits
Reserve the Leader for missions and diagnosis
Prepared force
A role-balanced squad can complete the chosen objective
Run one focused expedition
Absorbed return
Loot is stored, prisoners are handled, and jobs are refilled
Re-read objectives and select the next bottleneck

Recover when progress appears stuck

Make a manual save, then remove uncertainty one system at a time. Cancel nonessential queues, restore a critical worker, deliver one missing input, and let the affected process complete. Reopen the objective and research panels after each confirmed change. This makes the actual gate visible and avoids burning the entire stockpile on speculative construction.

If a control remains unavailable despite satisfying its displayed conditions, preserve the save and record the exact objective, building state, and current official update. The developers are actively repairing guidance, loading, and state issues during Early Access; a reproducible report is more useful than advice copied from the Demo or Prologue.

Set the next milestone after every return

End each expedition with a short debrief: unload resources, replace missing workers, inspect soldiers, resolve captives, review research, and read the Star Map again. Pick one next milestone before unpausing the colony. That choice keeps production, population, and combat moving toward the same result.

Use the Resource Guide when supply is the gate, Research Guide when an unlock is unclear, and Sectors and Missions when the Star Map is the unresolved layer.
