Resource management in Pax Autocratica is a movement problem before it is a quantity problem. The official game loop includes harvesting, production, trade, colony needs, and frontier acquisition. A stock can exist and still be unavailable because it is in the wrong storage, waiting for a hauler, reserved by a queue, or carried by the Leader.
Follow one unit from source to use
Pick the material blocking the current objective and trace it physically through the state. Identify where it enters, who gathers or unloads it, where it is stored, which building processes it, and what consumes the result. Watch a complete delivery instead of reading only the total inventory.
When production stalls, start at the empty consumer and walk backward. If the input exists upstream, inspect route access, worker state, queue priority, and storage destination. Adding another extractor cannot repair a disconnected final delivery.
Protect food and progression reserves
Divide stock mentally into survival, active objective, replacement, and discretionary production. Food and the material needed for the next repair or unlock deserve a reserve. Do not let a long manufacturing queue quietly consume everything required to recover from an expedition or staff a newly unlocked facility.
Use manual deposit quantities, added in Directive AG-12, when a stack must be divided between consumers. Confirm the amount after the transfer; a partial deposit is useful only if the remainder stays where another chain can reach it.
Treat hauling as production capacity
Extraction and processing advertise visible output, while transport time can hide between them. Keep frequently repeated routes short and avoid assigning every available citizen to a workshop. A modest producer that receives inputs consistently can outperform a larger line starved by its own layout.
Directive AG-14 fixed cases where workers could lose hauled resources and where Trading Ports displayed incorrect prices. If stock still disappears or a price looks impossible on the current branch, reproduce it with one item, save the state, and record the route or trade panel rather than assuming the old bug persists universally.
Immediate need
Feed citizens and sustain the one chain that keeps the colony functioning.
Objective stock
Set aside what the visible repair, research result, or mission preparation requires.
Recovery stock
Keep enough to replace losses, clear a shortage, or restart a stopped processor.
Expansion stock
Spend on new capacity only when the existing flow and labor can support it.
Use expeditions and trade to solve defined shortages
Before departure, name the missing resource class and the colony process it will unlock. Make inventory space, protect the squad needed to retrieve it, and return when the acquisition goal is met. Unfocused looting can fill storage without removing the actual gate.
Evaluate trade by outcome rather than a single displayed price. Identify what you surrender, what you receive, whether either item has another immediate use, and which production delay the exchange avoids. Because prices and balance are patch-sensitive, the live Trading Port is the authority for the current transaction.
Distinguish strategy from the item index
This guide answers how to acquire, route, reserve, and prioritize supplies. The Items and Resources database is the lookup page for recording exact names, observed sources, storage, and uses. Keeping those roles separate prevents a changing entity list from obscuring the stable diagnosis method.
If workers are the bottleneck, continue with Worker Management. For layout distance and building access, use the Base Building Guide.
