Worker management in Pax Autocratica means keeping people, jobs, transport, needs, and military duties compatible. A citizen shown at a workstation may still fail to produce because an input never arrived, stamina or hunger interrupted the schedule, the building needs repair, or that same person was deployed as a soldier.
Classify work before filling every slot
Sort current jobs into survival, connection, progression, and optional output. Food and essential gathering keep the state alive. Hauling connects every other building. Repairs and objective production remove gates. Luxury or surplus work can wait when labor is tight.
Leave at least some capacity to react to a new unlock, illness of a route, or an expedition departure. A fully assigned roster looks efficient until one absent worker stops three dependent buildings.
Observe a schedule, not an assignment icon
Select one important citizen and watch a complete work period. Note where they begin, how far they travel, whether they acquire food or rest, whether the job receives inputs, and whether an output reaches storage. The first interruption reveals which system owns the problem.
Balance stamina with useful travel
Do not treat low stamina as a meter that can be solved in isolation. Look at the route that consumed the worker’s time and whether rest, food, and the workplace are reachable in the schedule. Moving or reassigning one part of a long loop can recover more useful work than adding another nominal slot.
Early Access updates have changed soldier and worker behavior, and the developers list soldier control among active priorities. Record the current directive date when comparing stamina advice. If a citizen never recovers despite accessible needs, preserve the save and report the exact status rather than extrapolating from Demo behavior.
Reserve labor for hauling and absences
Haulers turn inventory into actual production. When several processors wait despite visible stock, reassign one optional producer to transport and watch whether multiple lines recover. Keep receiving storage close enough to make the improvement observable.
Before an expedition, inspect every selected soldier’s colony job. Replace anyone responsible for food, a unique input, or the only active delivery route. The squad should leave a smaller but complete state behind, not a collection of unstaffed critical buildings.
Core crew
Citizens who sustain food, essential gathering, and the minimum transport spine.
Progress crew
Workers assigned to the current repair, research result, or mission supply.
Flexible crew
People who can cover an absence, new building, or temporary transport shortage.
Deployment pool
Soldiers whose departure does not silently remove a critical colony role.
Change one assignment and wait for evidence
Reassigning several citizens at once hides the cause of improvement. Change the job most closely tied to the first broken link, then let a delivery or work period complete. Confirm that output reached its consumer before making another change.
If an assignment repairs one chain but starves another, the colony lacks reserve labor or the route is too expensive. Reduce discretionary output, shorten the path, or postpone expansion. Policies can influence conditions, but they cannot replace missing food, impossible travel, or an unstafed transport link.
Review people as citizens, not interchangeable slots
Fear, loyalty, happiness, hunger, relationships, aging, and military condition all matter alongside output. A coercive policy may maintain attendance while creating a political or social cost. Check those conditions after any schedule or policy change instead of judging success only by a full storage counter.
The Citizens hub covers population conditions, while Loyalty and Fear handles political diagnosis. For the physical route around jobs, use Base Building.
