Pax Autocratica Squad Builds

Assemble a Pax Autocratica squad by mission roles, command visibility, colony opportunity cost, capture discipline, and recoverable losses.

Squad builds are about the soldiers and formation that accompany the Leader. They are separate from the Leader’s weapon-and-core Builds. Choose a squad that can complete the current mission, obey readable commands, protect a capture plan, and leave the colony functional while it is away.

Begin with the mission’s three hardest jobs

Read the objective and identify the three jobs most likely to fail: hold pressure, remove a priority enemy, control a group, preserve a target, protect an interaction, or survive a long return. Assign soldiers using the abilities and equipment visible in your current save.

Do not use marketing mentions of infantry, tanks, or mechs as proof that every unit is available in your progression state. Do not assume a fixed squad capacity from the Demo or Prologue.

Build role overlap without duplicate confusion

Every essential job needs a primary soldier and a fallback action. Overlap does not mean bringing several identical units; it means the squad can still function if one person loses position, becomes occupied, or needs recovery.

Anchor and relief

One soldier holds immediate pressure while another can cover the retreat or reset.

Focus and control

One role removes a priority target while another limits surrounding interference.

Capture and restraint

One role executes the attempt while every other role can stop lethal damage quickly.

Objective and escort

One unit supports the mission action while the rest protect a readable approach and exit.

Price the squad against the colony

Inspect each selected soldier’s work assignment. Replace essential food, hauling, research, or production labor before departure. A tactically strong squad that switches off the state cannot sustain repeated expeditions.

Also count equipment cost, recovery time, age or condition shown by the live interface, and replacement difficulty. Use elite soldiers where their demonstrated capability solves a real problem; regular soldiers can be preferable for routine roles or uncertain scouting when the state cannot afford a rare loss.

Command the formation you can see

Choose a formation width and engagement distance that keeps soldiers inside the Leader’s awareness. Stop at corners, elevation changes, and objective zones long enough to verify that everyone followed. If a soldier cannot reach a command point, simplify the position before adding orders.

Check
Healthy formation
Reset signal
Line of sight
Leader can read threats and soldier positions
Units fight unseen around separate cover
Range roles
Each unit can contribute without crossing another role
Front and rear exchange places unintentionally
Capture control
Area and melee damage can stop around the target
Protection is treated as permission to continue firing
Exit route
The group can retreat through one protected path
Every soldier is committed beyond the Leader

Test composition through one controlled change

Repeat a familiar mission with the same difficulty and Leader build. Swap one soldier or role. Record objective completion, formation breaks, capture interference, damage taken, casualties, and colony disruption. A faster clear is not automatically better if the new squad produces unrecoverable losses.

The developers have named soldier behavior and control as active priorities. Treat pathing or command failure as a dated observation with terrain and mission context, not a permanent unit trait.

Rotate and debrief

After the return, restore jobs, inspect condition, unload gear, and identify which role actually carried the mission. Rotate exhausted or aging soldiers and keep a second person developing for critical roles. Consult Soldier Guide for individual readiness and Elite vs Regular for a current-save comparison method.

Write the debrief around transitions. Note who was late entering the first contact, who held during the hardest pressure, which command caused a split, and who still had a useful action during retreat. Those moments reveal missing overlap more clearly than the final damage total.

Before the next departure, make the smallest roster correction that addresses that transition. Moving one soldier from uncontrolled area pressure to dependable protection can repair a capture squad; replacing one colony-critical veteran with a trained reserve can repair the state. A completely new roster erases the evidence earned by the previous run.
