Expeditions connect the colony simulation to Pax Autocratica’s combat and exploration. You leave through the Star Map with citizens serving as soldiers, enter sectors with objectives and threats, and return with resources, prisoners, equipment, or progression. The strongest run is not necessarily the one that fights the most; it is the one whose result the colony can convert into lasting capacity.

Choose a mission that answers a colony need

Look at the settlement before opening the map. If a production chain lacks a particular input, seek that material. If population capacity is the constraint, consider a controlled capture. If research or story progression blocks facilities, follow the relevant objective. A trip with no defined need often consumes equipment and time while leaving the original bottleneck untouched.

Set one primary goal and one optional goal. The primary goal determines success; the optional one is attempted only while the squad remains healthy and the exit remains reliable. This prevents resource greed or an extra encounter from erasing an already useful result.

Test whether the colony can run without you

Essential inputs reach their consumers automatically

An existing conversion backlog is unresolved

Watch a short unattended production cycle if you are uncertain. The official premise emphasizes that colony work continues during exploration. A small stable system is safer than a large settlement whose queues require constant manual correction.

Prepare the Leader, squad, and inventory

Select soldiers for the actual objective. A scouting run needs survival and flexible response; a capture run needs controlled damage and correct capture rounds; a boss attempt needs a roster designed around the observed mechanic. Check citizen condition before removing them from their normal jobs.

Unload items the expedition will not use. Deposit exact quantities into colony buildings when appropriate; manual deposit control was added in AG-12. Preserve construction and recovery reserves rather than consuming the whole stock on one loadout. Make a manual save and retain the automatic backup before departure.

Read sectors instead of rushing them

On arrival, identify the mission marker, route, enemy groups, obstacles, and a withdrawal direction. Move far enough to reveal useful information while keeping the squad within support distance. A sector is easier to understand when you know which fight advances the objective and which fight is optional.

Direct the camera toward threats and the squad at the same time. Use terrain and spacing to prevent the entire group from receiving one hostile effect. If a path or target command fails, simplify the formation and reposition rather than adding more orders to a confused group.

Turn field gains into a safe return

Resources securedLeave enough capacity and health to carry them back.
Prisoner securedReduce optional combat that could kill or lose the target.
Objective completeRead the updated mission state before assuming another fight is required.
Squad compromisedWithdraw before one loss removes a vital colony role.

The return threshold should tighten as value accumulates. Once the primary goal is complete, every additional encounter risks both the recovered result and the people needed at home. A repeatable route is more useful than one exceptional clear that empties the colony’s reserves.

Approach capture and bosses differently

Capture requires restraint. Isolate the intended enemy, equip current capture rounds, halt uncontrolled follow-up, and remember that AG-14’s temporary kill protection after a failed attempt does not protect against Leader melee. The Capture Guide continues the process through prison conversion.

A boss requires observation and survival through its mechanics. Watch warning effects, target changes, and indicators before committing every unit. AG-12 fixed the Serina boss indicator, so current feedback is more authoritative than footage recorded before that fix. If a mechanic is unclear, test one formation change at a time and preserve a pre-attempt save.

Debrief at the colony

Deposit recovered resources where they solve the named bottleneck. Inspect soldier health and stamina, reassign citizens to essential work, process any captive, and read new research or mission text. Then observe whether the colony kept operating while you were away. The answer determines what must change before the next expedition.

Record the sector, objective, losses, materials spent, materials recovered, and the current Directive date. This short ledger reveals whether repeated trips are genuinely profitable and protects the conclusion from later balance changes.

Respond to repetition, bugs, or a failed return

The developers acknowledged repetitive expedition pain points in the August 13 State of the Frontline and are actively changing the Early Access experience. Do not interpret that roadmap as a completed feature change. Use the current mission state, and compare official notes after each Directive.

If progress does not register, verify the objective text, required target, inventory handoff, and exit state. If the game crashes, preserve saves and follow the current official technical steps rather than repeatedly entering the same sector with identical settings. If the run simply failed, load a safe state and reduce the objective before rebuilding the entire colony.

Use the Expeditions Guide for a concise departure-to-return checklist, Combat for squad control, and Colony when the real obstacle is preparation at home.
