Pax Autocratica Policies Guide

Use Pax Autocratica policies with a clear objective, observe fear, loyalty, happiness, hunger, work, and relationships, then reverse harmful combinations.

Policies in Pax Autocratica are interventions in a living workforce, not isolated bonuses. Curfews, rationing, propaganda, surveillance, imprisonment, punishment, exile, execution, reproduction, and related directives can change control while also affecting needs, relationships, work, and the chance of rebellion. Apply them for a specific problem and observe the population they touch.

Establish a baseline before issuing a directive

Read food supply, hunger, happiness, fear, loyalty, staffing, queue progress, and important relationships. Observe one normal work cycle. Without that baseline, an improvement or collapse after a policy has no comparison point.

Save before a broad or irreversible action. Note the current Directive version, because AG-12 and AG-14 already changed policy-adjacent functions such as exile, aging, and Mandatory Reproduction state.

Match policy to a visible problem

Problem
Information to read
Avoid
Supply shortage
Stock, food production, hunger, and hauling
Using rationing as a substitute for repairing production
Low control
Fear, loyalty, schedules, and active unrest
Stacking surveillance, curfew, and punishment simultaneously
Disruptive citizen
Job value, relationships, behavior, and replacement labor
Removing the only worker who sustains a critical chain
Future population
Aging setting, family state, capacity, and food
Treating reproduction as an immediate free worker supply

The policy should name both its immediate objective and its tolerated cost. If the colony cannot tolerate that cost, repair the underlying system or choose a narrower response.

Distinguish fear from loyalty

Fear can explain obedience under coercion, while loyalty concerns support for the regime. Happiness and hunger represent additional pressures. A citizen may continue working while political and social risk grows, so production output alone cannot validate the policy.

Compare the affected group with citizens outside it. Relationships allow treatment of one person to influence others. A punishment that controls the target may still create grief, humiliation, or opposition elsewhere.

Change one major condition at a time

Before

Record needs, political indicators, work completion, and the exact shortage or behavior.

During

Watch the affected citizens complete a schedule rather than judging the first meter movement.

After

Check whether the original problem improved and whether a new logistics or social problem appeared.

Rollback

Remove the newest harmful condition before adding another intervention.

This sequence prevents several policies from hiding one another. It also gives you a useful save point and a reproducible report if the interface shows an impossible state.

Use exile and punishment with workforce accounting

Manual exile was added in Directive AG-12. Before removing a citizen, identify the job, route, relationship, and military role that will disappear with them. Assign a replacement or accept the production loss deliberately.

Imprisonment, conversion, punishment, and execution represent different outcomes and social meanings. Read the current action and its target carefully. Do not infer that one removes the same risks or creates the same population response as another.

Plan aging and reproduction on a longer clock

AG-12 added an option to disable aging. Confirm the setting used by the colony before applying advice about succession or labor replacement. With aging active, the settlement needs future workers and leadership continuity; with it disabled, the same timeline pressure is different.

AG-14 fixed cases where Mandatory Reproduction could apply wrong pregnancy states. On the current branch, reproduce an unexpected state before treating it as intended policy behavior. Preserve the save and report the precise citizen and policy condition if it persists.

Recover from a harmful policy stack

Pause new directives and identify the most recent change tied to the decline. Restore the most urgent need—usually food, rest, or a critical job—then remove or reverse the contributing policy where the game permits. Wait for a complete schedule or production cycle before judging recovery.

If rebellion risk and output are both worsening, prioritize a stable population loop rather than maximum extraction. A smaller working system provides the resources and attention needed for later political choices.
